Bass Guitar Lessons for Dandenong Students
Dandenong students looking for serious bass guitar lessons don’t have to look far. Bass teacher Jeremy LaBrooy teaches from his private home studio in Sandhurst, roughly 15 minutes from Dandenong via Frankston-Dandenong Road and EastLink. Specialist tuition. All ages. All contemporary styles.
A Bass Teacher Who Knows the South East
Jeremy has been teaching bass since 1990. He holds a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from Monash University and a Diploma of Arts (Music Improvisation) from the Victorian College of the Arts. He is a former VCAA examiner for VCE Solo Performance (Bass) Units 3 & 4, which means he has assessed the very exam your student is preparing for. He knows exactly what earns marks. Students selecting works for their program can refer to the VCE Electric Bass Prescribed Works page for the full list.
His school teaching history includes Haileybury, where he was Senior Bass Guitar Teacher from 2000 to 2004 – writing the bass course curriculum, with two students winning the overall school music award for best achievement in music. He returned to Haileybury in 2024 on contract. He has also taught at Killester College in Springvale, one suburb over from Dandenong. He has coached students through auditions into bachelor of music programs at the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University.
That is the depth of experience behind every bass guitar lesson in Dandenong.
15 Minutes Up the Road
My studio is in Sandhurst, 3977, on the Carrum Downs edge of the Frankston city boundary. From Dandenong, you’re looking at a straightforward 15-minute drive: head south on Frankston-Dandenong Road, or pick up EastLink heading south. Either way, it’s an easy run.
No main-strip parking drama. It’s a home studio, purpose-built, quiet, focused. One student at a time.
Bass Crosses Every Genre. That Matters in Dandenong.
Dandenong is one of Melbourne’s most culturally diverse suburbs. That diversity shows up in the music students want to play, reggae, hip-hop, rock, pop, R&B, and more. The bass is the one instrument that cuts across all of it.
I teach all contemporary styles. If your student has a genre they love, that’s where we start. Learning the music that already means something to you is the fastest way to lock in technique, ear, and motivation, and keep them there.
For Dandenong Families: What Specialist Tuition Actually Looks Like
School music programs are valuable. Private specialist tuition is different.
In a one-on-one bass guitar lesson, we move at your student’s pace. We build technique properly from the start, so bad habits don’t compound. We work through music they actually want to play. And we weave in music theory in context, not as a separate chore.
If your child attends Dandenong High School, Padua College, Lighthouse Christian College, or St John’s Regional College, or Killester College in nearby Springvale, private bass lessons are the complement that takes them further than class music alone.
My Working With Children Check is current. The studio environment is safe, structured, and focused.
What You’ll Learn
Whether you’re a beginner picking up the bass for the first time or a developing player working toward VCE, here’s what I work on with every student:
- Technique, correct hand position, finger dexterity, tone, and timing from the ground up
- Songs you love, because playing music you care about is what makes lessons stick
- Music theory in context, reading, rhythm, scales and harmony applied directly to bass
- Style, rock, pop, reggae, hip-hop, funk, and more; I match the lesson to the student
- Advanced techniques, slap, muted thumb, double stops, tapping, and beyond, when you’re ready
Places Are Filling Now
A good time to start is at the start of the school term and spots go quickly.
