Bass Lessons Sandhurst — Teaching You to Play the Music You Love

Jeremy has been teaching bass guitar for over 35 years. His approach is direct and practical — you will be playing real music in your first lesson, not running scales for six months before anything interesting happens. He teaches players of all levels, from absolute beginners who have never touched a bass to advanced players preparing for university auditions or live performance.

Lessons are one-on-one in a dedicated private studio, and every session is shaped around what you actually want to achieve. That might be:

  • Learning to play your favourite songs on bass from the first lesson
  • Building rock-solid technique — right-hand tone, left-hand accuracy, timing
  • Understanding music theory in a way that makes sense for a bass player
  • Developing your ear and learning to play by ear as well as by notation
  • Exploring styles: rock, funk, jazz, RnB, soul, pop, musical theatre and more
  • Advanced techniques: slap bass, muted thumb, double stops, tapping, harmonics
  • Practising smarter — how to get more out of less time at the instrument
  • Industry knowledge from a working professional, including how to earn an income from music

As a former VCAA examiner, Jeremy has helped students achieve outstanding VCE Solo Performance results in bass (Units 3 and 4) and gain entry into the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University music programs. Read what past students have to say.

About Sandhurst

Sandhurst is a quiet, well-established residential estate in Melbourne’s south east, bordered by Frankston and Carrum Downs. It is best known as home to the Sandhurst Club — one of the region’s most prestigious private members clubs — which houses the Sandhurst Golf Club and serves as the Victorian headquarters of the PGA of Australia. It is a suburb that takes its amenity seriously, and the pace of life here suits focused, unhurried work — which is exactly the kind of atmosphere Jeremy brings to his teaching.

The studio itself is a private, purpose-built teaching space within the suburb. Students from Carrum Downs, Frankston, Cranbourne, Keysborough, Springvale, Mulgrave and Narre Warren all make the drive regularly.
