Bass Guitar Lessons Near Springvale

Springvale to my studio in Sandhurst is approximately 10 minutes via the Mornington Peninsula Freeway. A short, simple drive – no toll roads, no inner-city traffic. For families working around school schedules, that proximity makes a real difference.

I am Jeremy LaBrooy. I teach bass guitar. Just bass. That focus is the whole point.

I Know Springvale

I taught at Killester College in Springvale from June 2016 to November 2019. Nearly four years inside the Springvale community – working with students, working alongside school music staff, understanding how local families approach music education.

That is not a Google Maps connection. That is real history in this suburb.

If your child attends Killester College or Springvale Secondary College, you are enquiring with a teacher who has spent years working at one of those schools. That kind of local credibility is hard to manufacture.

The Credentials Behind Every Lesson

I have been teaching bass since 1990 – over 35 years in the instrument.

My qualifications:

  • Diploma of Teaching (Primary), Monash University
  • Diploma of Arts (Music Improvisation), Victorian College of the Arts

My school teaching history:

  • Jeremy spent years as Senior Bass Guitar Teacher at Haileybury’s Keysborough campus – students from Keysborough are just 15 minutes from his studio.
  • Returned to Haileybury on contract in 2024
  • Killester College Springvale, June 2016 to November 2019
  • VCE Bass Guitar Examiner, October 2002 to October 2006 – meaning I have assessed the exact exam your VCE student may be preparing for

I have coached students into auditioned bachelor of music programs at the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University. Students selecting works for their program can refer to the VCE Electric Bass Prescribed Works page for the full list.

Bass Crosses Every Genre – That Matters in Springvale

Springvale is one of Melbourne’s most culturally rich suburbs. Well known for its Vietnamese community and its multicultural character, that diversity shows up in the music students want to play.

Rock, funk, R&B, hip-hop, reggae, pop – bass drives every one of those genres. It is the one instrument that cuts across all of them.

I teach all contemporary styles. Wherever your musical interest lands, that is where we start. Learning music that already means something to you is the fastest way to build technique, develop your ear, and stay motivated.

For Springvale Families: What Private Tuition Actually Looks Like

School music programs have real value. Private specialist tuition is a different thing.

In a one-on-one lesson, we move at your student’s pace. We build correct technique from the start – the habits that compound in the right direction. We work through music they actually want to play, and weave in theory in context, not as a separate subject.

If your child is a beginner picking up the bass for the first time, private lessons are where genuine progress begins.

Adults Are Just as Welcome

All ages. Whether you are a complete beginner or returning to the bass after years away, lessons are structured around where you are now and where you want to go. No group classes, no wasted time.

What You Will Learn

  • Technique from the ground up – hand position, muting, tone, and timing built correctly from the start
  • Songs you love – because playing music that means something to you is what makes lessons stick
  • Reading music on the stave – more accessible than most people expect, and it opens doors that playing by ear alone cannot
  • Music theory applied directly to the bass
  • Style – rock, pop, funk, hip-hop, reggae, R&B, and more
  • Advanced techniques when you are ready: slap, muted thumb, double stops, tapping, and beyond
