Bass Guitar Lessons Near Mulgrave
If you’re looking for bass guitar lessons near Mulgrave, the drive to my studio is shorter than you might expect. I teach from my private studio in Sandhurst, 3977 – approximately 15 minutes from Mulgrave via Springvale Road and the Mornington Peninsula Freeway. One straightforward run south, and you’re here.
I’m Jeremy LaBrooy. I teach bass guitar. Not guitar. Not drums. Not keyboards. Just bass.
That focus matters.
No Specialist Bass Teacher on This Corridor
The Springvale Road and Wellington Road corridor – Mulgrave and the suburbs around it – has no specialist bass teacher. I’m the closest option. If you’ve been searching and coming up short, that’s the reason.
Private, specialist, one-on-one tuition is a different thing entirely from a general music school. You get a teacher whose entire career is built around one instrument.
A Teacher With the Credentials to Back It Up
I’ve been teaching bass since 1990. That’s over 35 years of private lessons, school programs, and VCE preparation.
My qualifications:
- Diploma of Teaching (Primary), Monash University
- Diploma of Arts (Music Improvisation), Victorian College of the Arts
Jeremy spent years as Senior Bass Guitar Teacher at Haileybury’s Keysborough campus – students from Keysborough are just 15 minutes from his studio. I wrote the bass guitar curriculum there. Two of my students won the school’s overall music award for best achievement in music, in separate years. I returned to Haileybury on contract in 2024.
I also taught at Killester College in Springvale from 2016 to 2019, and at Beaconhills College in Berwick.
From October 2002 to October 2006, I was a VCE Bass Guitar Examiner – assessing the same performance exam that students today are working toward. I know exactly what the standard is, and I know how to get students there.
My Working With Children Check is current.
For Mulgrave Adults Who’ve Always Wanted to Learn
Mulgrave is a suburb of professionals and working families. A lot of people here have had the same thought at some point: “I’ve always wanted to learn bass.”
Here’s what I want you to know. You can. Age doesn’t close that door.
In a private lesson, we go at your pace. You’re not in a group. Nobody’s waiting. You bring the music that already means something to you – rock, funk, reggae, pop – and that’s where we start. Technique, theory, and groove all get built in context, through music you actually care about. Adults often progress faster than they expect, because genuine motivation does a lot of the heavy lifting.
If you’ve had that thought, get in touch.
Kids, Teenagers, Adults – All Welcome
Bass lessons at my studio are for all ages. Kids starting from scratch. Teenagers building technique and working toward VCE. Adults coming back to music after years away, or picking up an instrument for the very first time.
With Monash University close by, I also work with students who are serious about where music can take them – whether that’s preparing for a university audition or developing to the point where playing in a band is a genuine option.
The studio is purpose-built for one student at a time. Focused. Quiet. One lesson, one student, no distractions.
What You’ll Learn
Whether you’re a complete beginner or a developing player, here’s what bass lessons cover:
- Technique – correct hand position, finger dexterity, muting, tone, and timing built from the ground up
- Songs you love – because music that already means something to you is what makes lessons stick
- Music theory in context – reading, rhythm, scales and harmony applied directly to the bass
- Styles – rock, pop, funk, reggae and more; I match the lesson to the student
- Advanced techniques – slap, muted thumb, double stops, tapping, and beyond – when you’re ready for them
