Bass Guitar Lessons Near Cranbourne

If you are searching for bass guitar lessons near Cranbourne, the studio is closer than you think. I teach from my private home studio in Sandhurst – and Cranbourne West directly borders Sandhurst. For most Cranbourne families, that is a straightforward 15-minute drive via South Gippsland Highway or Cranbourne-Frankston Road. No freeways, no toll roads. Just a short run up the road.

I am Jeremy LaBrooy. I teach bass guitar. Not guitar. Not drums. Not keyboards. Just bass.

That focus matters – especially when you compare it to the multi-instrument music schools in the Cranbourne area. At a school like iROCK Music School, bass is one of many instruments on the timetable. Here, every lesson is built around one instrument. Every technique, every exercise, every song – relevant to the bass player in front of me.

Why Specialist Bass Tuition Makes a Difference

I have been teaching bass since 1990. That is over 35 years of lessons, students, and results – all on one instrument.

My qualifications: Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from Monash University, and a Diploma of Arts (Music Improvisation) from the Victorian College of the Arts. From 2002 to 2006 I served as a VCE Bass Guitar Examiner for the Department of Education and Training Victoria – which means I have assessed the very exam your student may be preparing for. I know exactly what earns marks and what does not.

Jeremy spent years as Senior Bass Guitar Teacher at Haileybury’s Keysborough campus – students from Keysborough are just 15 minutes from his studio. I wrote the bass course curriculum there, and two students won the overall school music award for best achievement in music – in separate years. I returned to Haileybury in 2024 on contract. Jeremy taught at Killester College in Springvale – bass students from Springvale make the short drive south to his studio in Carrum Downs.

My Working With Children Check is current.

15 Minutes from Cranbourne

My studio is in Sandhurst, 3977 – on the Carrum Downs edge of the Frankston city boundary. Cranbourne West borders Sandhurst directly, and central Cranbourne is about 15 minutes from the studio door via South Gippsland Highway or Cranbourne-Frankston Road. It is an easy, familiar run for anyone coming from Cranbourne, Cranbourne West, or anywhere in the City of Casey.

One student at a time. No main-strip parking issues. Purpose-built, quiet, and focused.

For Cranbourne Families: What One-on-One Lessons Actually Look Like

Cranbourne is one of the fastest-growing family areas in the south east. Students from Cranbourne Secondary College, Nossal High School, Casey Grammar, St Peter’s College, and Lighthouse Christian College make the short trip to Sandhurst for lessons. Private specialist tuition is a different experience from what a school music program can offer.

In a one-on-one bass guitar lesson, we work at your pace. We build technique correctly from the start, so bad habits do not compound over time. We work through the music that actually means something to the student – the songs they want to learn. Music theory is woven in as a tool, not taught as a separate chore.

The outcomes: solid technique, the ability to read music, an understanding of styles across rock, pop, funk, reggae, and more, and the confidence to hold your own in a band.

All Ages Welcome

Young families with kids picking up the bass for the first time. Teenagers working toward a VCE result. Adults coming back to the instrument after years away, or starting fresh. Learn bass in Cranbourne at any age – private lessons move at your pace, not someone else’s.

Zoom lessons are also available if getting to the studio does not suit your schedule.

What You Will Learn

Whether you are a complete beginner or a developing player, here is what lessons cover:

  • Technique – correct hand position, finger dexterity, tone, timing, and muting from the ground up
  • Songs you love – because playing music you care about is what makes lessons stick
  • Music reading – notes on the stave, applied directly to bass
  • Styles – rock, pop, funk, reggae, hip-hop, R&B; matched to the student
  • Advanced techniques – slap, muted thumb, double stops, tapping – when you are ready

Places Are Limited

I have a limited number of spots for new students from Cranbourne and the surrounding City of Casey area. If you are keen to learn bass, get in touch to book a lesson.
