Bass Guitar Lessons for Lyndhurst Students

Of all the suburbs I serve across Melbourne’s south-east, Lyndhurst students have the shortest drive to the studio. We are talking approximately 5 minutes. My home studio is in Sandhurst, 3977, and Lyndhurst sits immediately adjacent – right on the CranbourneFrankston corridor. No freeway, no long haul. You leave Lyndhurst and you are here.

That is not a small thing. A short commute means more lessons attended, more consistency, and faster progress. For families with school-aged children already juggling pickups and after-school schedules, five minutes changes the equation entirely.

The Closest Studio on the Corridor

Sandhurst borders Carrum Downs, Cranbourne West, and Lyndhurst. If you know this pocket of the south-east, you know how tight the geography is. My studio sits at the centre of it.

For Lyndhurst families, this is the most convenient specialist bass tuition available anywhere in the region. Not a multi-instrument school 20 minutes in the wrong direction. A dedicated bass studio a short drive from your front door. That gap in travel time and specialisation is real, and it compounds across a year of lessons.

Students from the Lyndhurst Secondary College area and families connected through the Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre are particularly well placed. Getting here is genuinely easy.

Neighbouring Carrum Downs students come from the same studio – you can read more on the Bass Teacher Carrum Downs page.

Bass Guitar. One Instrument. Over 35 Years.

I am Jeremy LaBrooy. I teach bass guitar exclusively. Not guitar. Not drums. Not keyboards. Just bass.

I have been teaching bass since 1990 – over 35 years focused on one instrument. My formal qualifications are a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from Monash University and a Diploma of Arts (Music Improvisation) from the Victorian College of the Arts. I was a VCE Bass Guitar Examiner from October 2002 to October 2006, which means I have sat on the other side of the exam your student is preparing for. I know exactly what earns marks.

Jeremy spent years as Senior Bass Guitar Teacher at Haileybury’s Keysborough campus – students from Keysborough are just 15 minutes from his studio. I wrote the bass course curriculum. Two separate students won the school’s overall music award for best achievement in music in two separate years. I returned to Haileybury on contract in 2024. Jeremy taught at Killester College in Springvale – bass students from Springvale make the short drive south to his studio in Carrum Downs.

My Working With Children Check is current.

That is the depth of experience behind every lesson given to a Lyndhurst student.

For Lyndhurst Families: What Specialist Tuition Looks Like

School music programs have value. Private specialist tuition is a different thing entirely.

In a one-on-one bass lesson, we move at your student’s pace. We build technique correctly from the start, so bad habits do not compound and slow things down later. We work through songs they actually want to play. Music theory is woven in as context for the instrument, not delivered as a separate chore.

Adults are equally welcome. Whether you are picking up the bass for the first time or returning after years away, private lessons move at your pace. No group classes, no wasted time waiting for others to catch up.

What You Will Learn

  • Technique – correct hand position, finger dexterity, tone, and timing from the ground up
  • Songs you love – because playing music that already means something to you is what makes lessons stick
  • Music theory in context – reading, rhythm, scales, and harmony applied directly to bass
  • Style – rock, pop, reggae, funk, hip-hop, and more; lessons are matched to the student
  • Advanced techniques – slap, muted thumb, double stops, tapping, and beyond, when you are ready
